About the Artist
Sailor, beach lover & traveler from an early age, Keith's paintings capture the quiet, peaceful nature of familiar coastal scenes, landscapes and café subjects. From the Chesapeake Bay and the Carolina coast to Europe, the Caribbean and beyond, his work evokes memorable moments encountered by nearly all of us – whether it is a salty breeze at the beach, relaxing on the deck of a boat, a cozy sidewalk café, or a sun-lit glass of bubbling Champagne on a hotel veranda. An avid boater with a Captain's license from the USCG, much of his recent inspiration comes from time on the water. His home studio is located on Yonges Island near Charleston, S.C.
“My grandmother had a print of Winslow Homer's "Breezing Up" over her mantel and that scene pulled me in for as long as I can remember. Water is definitely part of my soul, and it’s usually the salty variety. I grew up fishing and boating with my grandfather and dad on the beaches and waterways of the Carolinas. As an adult I spent years sailing in the Carolinas, in Charleston harbor and offshore, along the coast and the Chesapeake Bay, where I lived on my sailboat for a time. I can sit for hours and simply watch the water – whether rough or calm, sparkling from the sun or dark in the night, ocean or stream, lake or pond. It’s calming for me – no matter what the circumstances. I try to capture those feelings and their colors when I paint, regardless of the subject.”
Keith has exhibited in galleries and museums in New York, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Oregon, Wisconsin, California and the Carolinas and periodically shows work at juried art festivals. His work has received numerous awards in prestigious marine and landscape art competitions and is often highlighted in international fine art exhibitions. Keith’s work can be found in private collections across America and in the U.K. as well as the South Carolina Maritime Museum.
Keith is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the American Society of Marine Artists, and a former Signature Member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters. Oil as well as acrylic paintings on stretched canvas or on panels. I often use the extra fine Charvin oil paints made with poppyseed oils in the south of France for my oil paintings. Work is done in-studio primarily at my home-base on Yonges Island, SC near Charleston. Original sizes range from 4" x 6" to larger canvases 36" x 48" or larger. Many of the works shown on this website are sold or privately held, but those available are so indicated. Custom work, commissions, based on a collector's concept are invited. Limited edition giclees (intense ink prints on canvas or archival papers) may be ordered for nearly every image in a variety of sizes - framed or unframed. Images of most of my paintings are now also available reproduced on note cards, iphone cases, throw pillows, and tote bags as well.
